ASU has topped U.S. News & World Report’s “Most Innovative Schools” list since the inception of the category in 2016. ASU again placed ahead of MIT and Stanford, based on a survey of peers. College presidents, provosts and admissions deans around the country nominated up to 15 colleges or universities that are making the most innovative improvements. 

ASU is ranked No. 1 in the nation — ahead of Michigan State, Penn State and MIT — and top 10 in the world five years in a row by Times Higher Education for advancing the United Nations' 17 Sustainable Development Goals. ASU ranks No. 1 in the U.S. for 11 of 17 (60%) of categories used to measure global impact.

ASU ranks No. 1 in the U.S. and No. 2 in the world by the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education. Totaling 91.10 points out of 100, ASU ranks ahead of Stanford, Cornell and Colorado State. ASU's sustainable practices include using solar panels to power operations, harvesting campus-grown produce and more.
 

U.S. News & World Report recognizes ASU as No. 3 for best online bachelor's in business programs, encompassing more than 25 undergraduate business degree programs offered online. ASU is ahead of University of Arizona, Syracuse University and University of Denver.

Scoring a perfect 100/100 for the third year in a row, the Thunderbird School of Global Management is ranked No. 1 in the world for international trade by the QS International Trade Rankings, ahead of Columbia, Michigan and UNC-Chapel Hill. QS selected Thunderbird’s Master of Global Management degree program as the world’s best international trade program.

The Broadcast Education Association awarded the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication five first-place finishes, with a total of 23 awards, along with Syracuse, and ahead of Florida and USC. The Cronkite School also earned two top overall awards and was named the best Television Newscast (4/5 days per week) for the fourth straight year.

ASU is ranked No. 7 among U.S. universities for undergraduate teaching by U.S. News & World Report, ahead of Yale, Stanford and Harvard. This award recognizes universities demonstrating a strong commitment to high-quality undergraduate teaching.

ASU ranks No. 2 in the U.S. among public universities by the GEURS survey of employers, ahead of UCLA, University of Michigan and Purdue. GEURS rates employability performance on key employability drivers: specialization, graduate skills, academic performance, focus on work expertise, social impact and leadership, and internationality.

ASU ranks top 40 among U.S. universities according to QS World University Rankings 2025, ahead of Dartmouth, Georgetown and Notre Dame. Moving up two spots from last year's position, ASU takes the top spot in the state. QS looked at key indicators including academic reputation, sustainability, employment outcomes and international research network. 

ASU is ranked the top public university in the U.S. chosen by international students, for the fourth straight year, in the 2024 Institute of International Education Open Doors Report. Placing ahead of UCLA, Purdue and the University of Texas. ASU hosted over 18,000 international students in fall 2023.

The Watts College of Public Service and Community Solutions at ASU ranks No. 2 for best graduate criminology and criminal justice programs by U.S. News & World Report, ahead of Penn State and Florida State. One of 14 graduate degree programs ranked in the top 10 nationwide, the program is designed and taught by nationally ranked faculty.

ASU is ranked No. 1 for visual and performing arts by the National Science Foundation Survey of Earned Doctorates, ahead of UCLA, Columbia and Yale.The SED is based on the number and characteristics of individuals receiving research doctoral degrees in the academic year 2022–23 from U.S. academic institutions.

ASU ranks No. 4 among U.S. public universities for best undergraduate research and creative projects by U.S. News & World Report. College presidents, provosts and admissions deans from more than 1,500 schools nominated institutions where students perform research or creative work that can be formally presented on or off campus.

ASU has been named a top 5 "Best College for Future Leaders" among public universities by Time and Statista. The ranking is based on the career milestones of a selected group of the nation's top leaders in the U.S. including where they received their degrees. The list of leaders spans a broad range of industries and fields, including politicians, CEOs, union leaders and Nobel winners.

ASU has been named to the Mental Health Services Honor Roll by The Princeton Review. Universities were selected for staffing and student support, healthy campus quality of life, and empowerment of students to address mental health through programs and peer-to-peer offerings.

For the past 10 years, ASU has been a top producer of elite scholars. The list includes, among others, 335 Gilman Scholars, 169 Fulbright U.S. Student Program participants, 49 DAAD-Rise recipients, 41 Boren Scholars, 28 Killiam Fellows, 21 Goldwater Scholars, 28 CLS Scholars, 10 Udall Scholars, 10 Pickering Scholars, 6 Gates Cambridge Scholars and 3 Rhodes Scholars.

ASU's undergraduate chemistry program ranks in the top 20 in Washington Monthly's America's Top Colleges for Women in STEM, along with Carnegie Mellon and the University of Buffalo. Based on data from the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System, the ranking compared the gender distribution of every STEM program at 1,027 U.S. colleges and universities.

ASU's W. P. Carey School of Business has been named one of the nation's most outstanding business schools, according to the Princeton Review. The W. P. Carey School earned the No. 1 spot in the country for Best MBA for operations, the No. 5 spot in resources for minority students, and No. 11 for online MBA programs.

ASU is ranked No. 3 in the U.S. among public universities for first-year experiences, ahead of Michigan, Purdue and Ohio State, by U.S. News & World Report. First-year students have access to unique programs that help them thrive including peer coaching, an interactive chatbot and Welcome Week activities.

ASU's School of Public Affairs holds eight top 10 spots in U.S. News & World Report graduate rankings, including the school itself, along with several specialties such as homeland security and emergency management, information and technology management, local government management, nonprofit management, public management and leadership, urban policy and criminology.

In the U.S. News & World Report's 2024 graduate rankings, ASU's local government management graduate program ranks No. 3 in the country, ahead of Syracuse University and USC. It is one of six graduate program specialties offered in ASU's Watts College of Public Service and Community Solutions ranked in the top 10.

U.S. News & World Report ranks two graduate fine arts programs in ASU's Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts in the country's top 10: ceramics (No. 4 along with Rhode Island School of Design) and photography (No. 6 along with Rochester Institute of Technology). 

ASU is one of only seven doctoral-level institutions recognized as a top producer of Fulbright awards for both students and faculty, along with USC, George Washington University and University of Maryland. ASU has been a "top-producing institution" for the Fulbright U.S. Student Program for 18 of the past 20 years. In the last 10 years, 185 ASU graduates have received Fulbright U.S. Student awards.

ASU ranks No. 5 among U.S. public universities for best co-op and internship programs by U.S. News & World Report. College presidents, provosts and admissions deans from more than 1,500 schools nominated institutions that require or encourage students to apply what they're learning in real-world circumstances through internships, practicums or cooperative education. 

ASU ranks No. 2 among U.S. public universities for best senior capstone by U.S. News & World Report. College presidents, provosts and admissions deans from more than 1,500 schools nominated up to 15 institutions with stellar examples of senior capstones. Schools that received 10 or more nominations were ranked.

W. P. Carey School of Business ranks No. 1 in the U.S. and No. 2 worldwide in Poets & Quants 2025 rankings of MBA entrepreneurship programs. ASU ranks ahead of Michigan, Duke and UCLA. Measuring 16 categories, the ranking emphasizes the percentage of MBA students launching businesses and MBA courses focused on entrepreneurship, innovation or both.

The Watts College of Public Service and Community Solutions ranks No. 2 for best graduate homeland security and emergency management program by the 2024 U.S. News & World Report, ahead of USC, George Washington and Columbia.

ASU ranks No. 1 in the Air and Climate category by the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education in its annual Sustainable Campus Index report, ahead of Stanford and Cornell. ASU is named the top-performing higher education institution for taking action to measure and reduce its air pollutant emissions.

ASU is among the top 20 public universities on Times Higher Education's Most International Universities in the World 2024 list. The ranking recognizes universities that have a high proportion of international students and staff, collaborate with researchers worldwide, and have a strong global reputation.

ASU ranks top 10 among U.S. universities granted U.S. utility patents in the top 100 rankings by the National Academy of Inventors. In 2022, along with Stanford, Harvard and Caltech, ASU placed No. 8 on the NAI's top 100 list for U.S. universities, demonstrating its dedication to propelling American technological advancement. In 2022, ASU ranked No. 11 among universities worldwide. 

ASU ranks top 5 nationally for research expenditures among universities without a medical school, according to the National Science Foundation Higher Education Research and Development Survey. The university reports nearly $904 million in research expenditures in 2023, ahead of Caltech, Princeton and Carnegie Mellon.

ASU recorded an average multiyear Academic Progress Rate of 995 over a four-year period (2018–19 to 2021–22), which ties the all-time ASU high and first in the Pac-12 for the second year in a row. Since the 2015–16 academic year, ASU has averaged a 990-plus for each APR multiyear cohort that has been released. 

ASU's School of Earth and Space Exploration ranks No. 14 by U.S. News & World Report among graduate schools for earth sciences. For earth sciences specialties, ASU ranks No. 6 for geochemistry and No. 8 for geology. 

ASU's Army Reserve Officers' Training Corps, also known as ROTC, is recognized as one of the top eight programs of its kind nationwide with the 2021 General Douglas MacArthur Award. Chosen out of 274, the program known as the Sun Devil Battalion was selected for a combination of achievement in commissioning mission, cadets' performance during Cadet Summer Training and retention rates. 

ASU's W. P. Carey School of Business offers 26 degree programs, both undergraduate and graduate and including online, that rank among the country's top 25, and 15 in the top 10. Top programs include supply chain management, project management, information systems and business analytics.

Students in ASU's Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication placed No. 7 overall in the prestigious Hearst Journalism Awards, along with University of Missouri, UNC-Chapel Hill and Penn State. ASU placed No. 6 in intercollegiate audio and television and No. 7 in intercollegiate writing.

ASU’s Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College is No. 17 in U.S. News & World Report’s annual rankings of America’s best graduate education programs. Among public universities, the college placed at No. 5, ahead of UC Berkeley, the University of Texas and the University of Virginia, solidifying ASU as a top-tier college for a master's degree in education since 2012.

The annual QS World University Rankings recognizes ASU as a top 10 university in the world for the quality of meaningful connections between potential employers and students — ahead of Princeton, MIT and Stanford, and others. ASU also earns the No. 17 ranking for the excellence of its partnerships with employers — ahead of Cornell, UCLA, Princeton and Harvard.

ASU is named to the top 100 in the world for academic reputation by Times Higher Education. The ranking is based on the world's largest invitation-only academic opinion survey, which uses United Nations data as a guide to ensure that the results are representative of world scholarship, and targets only experienced, published scholars. 

For the past nine years, ASU has been a top producer of Teach for America corps members — a trend that continued in 2024 with ASU ranking No. 1 among large universities, ahead of UCLA, UC Berkeley and Michigan. TFA corps members spend two years in classrooms supporting the educational and personal development of underserved students.

ASU ranks in the top 10 in the U.S. for higher education R&D expenditures financed by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. ASU is ranked ahead of UC Berkeley, UCLA and MIT in NASA-funded expenditures. 

The Princeton Review ranks ASU a top U.S. university for undergraduate education in its "The Best 388 Colleges 2023" based on a survey of more than 160,000 students. Students praised the university for "innovation," the ability to “personalize every student’s experience,” "endless ... opportunities for success" and "diversity" of the student body. 

ASU ranks in the top 5 among universities without a medical school for inventions, patents, patent deals and startups by AUTM, ahead of Georgia Tech, UC Berkeley and Princeton. ASU is one of only two of 63 universities without medical schools, including MIT to rank in the top five across all four categories.

ASU ranks No. 8 among top-tier research universities on The Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression’s 2024 College Free Speech Rankings, ahead of University of Chicago, Duke and Purdue. The ranking is based on student responses, school's approach toward free expression concerning incoming speakers and school policies that imperil free speech. 

For the second time, ASU has earned the Seal of Excelencia from the Washington, D.C.-based organization Excelencia in Education for its high level of commitment and effort to serve Latino students. In 2019, ASU was among the inaugural group of nine institutions to earn the prestigious award. 

ASU earns the "Education Partner of the Year" award from the Hispanic Scholarship Fund, recognizing the university's efforts to help more Hispanic students attend and graduate from college. ASU's undergraduate Hispanic student enrollment has grown 29% over the past six years. In addition, ASU is currently home to 225 HSF Scholars, receiving mentorship, career support and leadership development. 

Times Higher Education recognizes ASU as one of only two universities in the U.S. — and one of 31 globally — to achieve net zero emissions. The ranking appears in THE’s new data-led report on higher education’s climate-neutral commitments, The Race to Net Zero, which shows how universities worldwide are lowering their greenhouse gas emissions to achieve net zero.

ASU ranks in the nation's top 15 public schools by Washington Monthly's 2023 National University Rankings, ahead of University of Virginia, UC Santa Barbara and Ohio State. The ranking recognizes colleges' contribution to the public good in three categories: social mobility, research and promoting public service. 

ASU ranks No. 7 among U.S. public universities for best learning communities by U.S. News & World Report. College presidents, provosts and admissions deans from more than 1,500 schools nominated up to 15 institutions with stellar examples of stellar learning communities. Schools that received 10 or more nominations were ranked.

ASU is named among seven "Greenest College Campuses in the U.S." by Newsweek, along with Stanford, Cornell and University of Colorado Boulder. The ranking recognizes universities whose emphasis on sustainability reflects the mindset of the majority of young people who, according to an international Lancet study, are concerned about climate change.

ASU ranks top 25 worldwide by ShanghaiRanking's Global Ranking of Academic Subjects in eight subject areas, including No. 14 in environmental science and engineering and No. 18 in geography. ASU ranks top 25 in the U.S. in 20 subject areas.

ASU ranks top 10 among universities worldwide granted U.S. utility patents in the top 100 rankings by the National Academy of Inventors. In 2023, along with MIT, Stanford and Harvard, ASU placed No. 7 on the NAI's top 100 list for U.S. universities, demonstrating its dedication to propelling American technological advancement.

ASU ranks in the top 1% of international universities for education, employability, faculty and research among more than 20,000 universities by the Center for World University Rankings, ahead of Georgetown, University of Illinois-Chicago and Florida State.

ASU ranks No. 3 on the EPA’s Green Power Partnership Top 30 College & University Partners listing. Seventy-eight percent of ASU’s total electricity use is green power, helping to reduce the effects of air pollution and emissions caused by conventional electricity use while supporting the development of clean energy resources.

U.S. News & World Report rates 83 undergraduate and graduate programs, including online, at ASU among the top 25 in the country, including 44 programs ranked in the nation's top 10.

Recognizing ASU for “improving teaching and learning, producing research that makes a difference in communities and revitalizing its civic and academic mission," the Carnegie Foundation bestows its "Community Engagement" classification on the university through 2025. 

ASU makes Newsweek's list of The Best Maker Schools in Higher Education, among more than 2,000 communal makerspaces around the world. The list was created through a survey tool in collaboration with an international community of educators, administrators, students and maker leaders. The selected schools demonstrate the ingenuity and community engagement that are hallmarks of the maker movement. 

More than 60,000 employers and partners from the Global University Central Career Union and Lockin selected ASU as a recipient of its Top 50 Professional Collaboration Support Global University Award. The award recognizes outstanding participation in recruitment activities, collaboration with Chinese enterprises, helping their students to seek employment and improving their employment rate.

ASU graduate programs place among the best in the nation, according to U.S. News & World Report's 2024 “Best Graduate Schools” rankings. Nineteen graduate programs rank among the top 10 including homeland security and emergency management, supply chain and nonprofit management, and information and technology management.

Offering 300 program options in 65 countries, ASU ranks No.18 in the U.S. for students studying overseas, according to the Institute of International Education.

ASU is among the top 5 for online bachelor's programs in the U.S. as ranked by U.S. News & World Report. The school with the most online offerings and the highest undergraduate enrollment in the ranking, ASU is ahead of University of Arizona, George Washington University and University of Georgia. ASU offers more than 300 online undergraduate, graduate and certificate programs.

W. P. Carey School of Business ranks among the top in the nation with six of its online graduate programs in the top 10 — including online MBA (top 10 for 11 consecutive years), general management MBA, MBA marketing, MBA business analytics, finance MBA and master's in business programs (excluding MBA).

ASU ranks Top 20 in the world for interdisciplinary science research by Times Higher Education. The ranking is based on  three key areas: inputs (funding), process (measures of success, facilities, administrative support and promotion); and outputs (publications, research quality and reputation).

ASU's Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law is among the nation's top15 public university graduate schools according to an annual survey by U.S. News & World Report. The college tops George Washington University, University of California-Irvine and Emory University, among others. It is the highest-ranking law school in Arizona.

ASU continues to set the standard in online learning, earning a gold rating in the inaugural Times Higher Education Online Learning Rankings. ASU was one of only 11 global universities that received gold designation, the highest recognition for quality.
